Excellent communication and collaboration skills are crucial to a successful nurse. The ability to connect both with patients and members of one's health care team cultivates strong relationships that help prevent mistakes and provide the best patient-centered care.

 

Throughout my five semesters in nursing school at Auburn University, all faculty members have heavily emphasized the importance of mastering communication and collaboration skills. During my clinical experiences, I attentively practiced their advice while verbally and nonverbally interacting with patients, family members and nurses. I also discovered that thorough documentation is necessary to achieve effective communication and collaboration. My nursing education through Auburn University has strengthened my communication and collaboration skills and taught me to use them effectively.
